I like how Raphael uses the faces of artists during his life to depict people like Plato (who is depicted as da Vinci) and Aristotle. I also like how he uses subtle gestures in the painting to symbolize different ideas, such as Plato and Aristotle pointing to the Earth and sky

Raphael features famous artists from the Renaissance as famous Greem philosophers. Raphael is trying to show how just like the ancient philosophers, the artists have different views on life and art.

Raphael is including the four elements with the colors of their robes (earth, air, water, and fire). He is also including the great geek philosophers, but with Roman architecture.

This painting has a lot of detail. I think the use of color was very good. It helped the people in the painting really stand out and put a great emphasis on them.

Raphael blends Greek and Roman cultures in this painting. He has prominent Greek philosophers but Roman style buildings as well. He also paints using Renaissance styles, so as to blend Ancient philosophies with the Renaissance styles.

I liked how he added Greek philosophers to his painting. It gives his painting a true meaning. That the Greek philosophers made art the way it is today.

Raphael's artistic mastery is displayed in this piece as he includes a variety of philosophers and artists from many different times and places in history, each acclaimed for his work. They all come together in this work to form a school of genius!

The School of Athens represents all the greatest mathematicians, philosophers and scientists from classical antiquity. Although, they were all from different times they are all gathered here together. The two main center people are Aristotle and Plato. He also includes Pythagoras, and Ptolemy and a self- portrait of himself next to Ptolemy.

The School of Athens like Laura said represents the greatest of the greatest mathematicians and philosophers. The two central (emphasis) figures are Aristotle and Plato. Plato looks up as his philosophy shows that the world we see is a shadow of a truer reality, while Aristotle believes the only reality is the reality we can see which is why he is looking down. Pythagoras, Ptolemy and Rapharl himself are also featured. Raphael's message through the School of Athens is that there is no difference between thinkers before or after the Biblical revelation or between pagans and Christians. Despite their differences in religious beliefs, they all come together sharing the same interests.

Although the painting shows Roman architecture, Raphael uses Greek philosophers to represent people like Leonardo da Vinci. The light background is used to emphasize the importance of the two Greek philosophers (Plato and Aristotle).

Raphael is trying to make a connection between the great questions and answers posed by ancient Greek philosophers and comparing them to the great artistic minds of the Renaissance such as Michelangelo. It also shows how Raphael recognizes that the Renaissance began due to the rediscovery of the ancient ideas and art of ancient Greece and Rome.

I like the little details that Raphael put into the painting and how he used Greek philosophers to represent Michelangelo and himself. Plus it's also notable to mention that the painting shows Roman architecture instead of Greek and he meant to express how the Renaissance was beginning because of the ideas from Greece and Rome.

I really like this painting by Raphael. I think he incorporated the Greek philosophers which represented the major renaissance artists to symbolize the ending of the Dark Age and the beginning of a new era.

The fact that Raphael used different and bright colors on the philosophers makes them stand out more in the painting. Also, the fact that the rest of the painting is still pretty bright makes this painting more different than a lot of the others paintings at this time, since they were all pretty dark.

I really like the use of bright colors in this. It is probably one of my favorites during this time, and my favorite by Raphael himself.

This painting features the famous philosophers and artists during the renaissance. I think that Raphael is trying to say that everybody contributes to the knowledge that is gained in the world. I think that he is also saying that everybody's contributions are important.
